Are you looking for a book to read? You are in the right place.

After a bit of time off from my blog (but not my reading), I’m back with a wrap up of my January books. I found a new series to love (Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake), made progress in the Cork O’Connor series, and re-read a five-star favorite from a couple of years ago. Moving forward, I’ll only be writing blurbs for the five-star books, but will include links for the rest. It’s too hard for me to keep up with writing blurbs for as many books as I read. I hope you find your new favorite book!

January’s Five Star Books

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Still a five star read the second time around!

I first read this book back in April of 2020 and it has stuck with me ever since. I gave it five stars back then and loved it even more the second time around.

Here is my blurb from back then:

“This is the story of an up-and-coming rock-and-roll band in the ’70s that will sing to your soul. I loved the format- a biographer attempting to tell the story of why the band imploded just as they were reaching their goals, told through a series of interviews. I loved the characters; they were full and flawed and familiar. And the story. Oh. My. Heart.”

I still feel all of that and having read it a second time, I love, love, love how TJR builds the relationships throughout the book. Friends, lovers, siblings… and how they all impact each other.

This was one of my top books of 2020 and I’m going to go ahead and say it’s one of my favorite books of all time.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Want to laugh out loud?

If you are looking for a fun, fast read then The Unhoneymooners is definitely the book for you.

This enemies-to-lovers romcom made me laugh out loud. The story of two sisters, one perpetually unlucky and the other just as perpetually lucky, and what happens when the tides turn and luck switches sides.

When Ami’s entire wedding party gets food poisoning at the reception, the only two people left standing are her twin sister, Olive, and the best man, Ethan. Unwilling to let her all-expense-paid honeymoon go to waste, Ami insists that Olive and Ethan go instead. The only problem is that they hate each other. Hilarity ensues as they agree to pretend they are the “happy couple” and head to Hawaii.

There is a serious side to this book, but overall it will leave you smiling. Definitely move this to the top of your TBR.

Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon

Instructions for Dancing

So many things to love about this book!

On its face, it’s a typical YA romcom. But mix in a little magical realism with fun characters and ballroom dancing and it’s so much more.

I loved the characters. Evie is fun, frustrating, and relatable. X is mysterious and lovable. And all of the friends and family that surround them add humor and wisdom to make this a winning cast of characters.

The story is unique and creative… lots of dancing without losing the romance and humor. I was engaged from beginning to end.

Whether romcoms are your thing or not, this is one to add to your TBR for when you need to laugh and feel good about life.
