Don’t get me wrong, I love Wisconsin. But I hate winter. I loathe winter. There is a whole state full of people that love winter and winter sports that think cold and snow are the bees knees. That is NOT ME. I can tolerate the cold and snow until Christmas and then I am Done. Capital D. As soon as we flip the calendar to January, I start dreaming of beaches and sand, sleeping in, and being warm all day, every day. I look forward to leaving Wisconsin during Spring Break and heading somewhere warm and sunny.

We are not the type of people who do things on vacation. Almost every year we go to the beach. We stay in a condo with a full kitchen so that we don’t have to go out for breakfast. This also means we can go to and from the beach as we please, eat sandwiches for lunch, keep drinks in the fridge to take with us to the beach or pool. We usually go out to dinner a couple of times. But most of the time, we relax at the pool or the beach. I’m not sure exactly sure what else the boys do, because as soon as I sit my butt in the passenger seat of the car, I get totally lost in a book and I stay that way most of the week.

For me, Spring Break is not just sun and sand. It’s the one time of the year I have almost unlimited, uninterrupted time to read. I start planning my To-Read list weeks, maybe months ahead. And it’s ambitious. I never finish all of the books I bring (did I mention that we drive so I can pack almost as many books as I want?) but I make a valiant effort at it.

I love that my daughter loves to read, too. Lots of bonding time over books.

So now we are only a couple of days away from Spring Break and my bag is almost packed. My book bag, that is. I’ll end up throwing everything else in my suitcase at the last minute because I’m the mom and I’ll get everything else taken care of first. Well, after my book bag is packed, of course.
