Bottom line:

I loved reading One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus. It’s fun, fast-paced, and addictive and a perfect read for a plane ride, the beach, or those times when you can finally sit and get lost in a book. It is NOT the type of book where you can read a couple of pages and put it down and come back to it. Seriously. Don’t even try.

Summary:

So this book has been described as The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little LiarsOne of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.

I loved:

The Idea of the Story.  I mean, I grew up in the ‘80s where The Breakfast Club was king and my children are old enough that I could actually watch tv during the first four seasons of PLL (the only ones that count), so any book that combines the two has to be good, KWIM?

The Characters.  The Brain, The Beauty, The Criminal, The Athlete, and The Outcast.  It’s true, I loved some more than others.  But, they were all fun to read.

The Story Itself:  Five kids go into detention, only four come out alive and it wasn’t an accident.  The creator of the high school’s gossip app made no secret of the fact that he planned to reveal all sorts of juicy secrets about the other four students in detention with him.  So did one of them kill him to keep him silent?  Or are those four being set up by someone with something bigger to hide?

I recommend this for:

  • Anyone looking for a great summer read
  • Anyone looking for an unputdownable book
  • Anyone that likes YA fiction
  • Anyone that likes mysteries
